Renowned Sports Commentator Bids $50,000 for Scottie Scheffler’s First Car

World No.1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has recently put his car up for auction to raise money for charity Triumph Over Kid Cancer. Legendary sports commentator Jim Nantz made the opening bid of $50,000 at a gala for the charity in Houston, expressing his willingness to store the car in his garage. The auction, conducted by Heritage Auctions, began on December 6 and will run until December 28.

Despite his immense success in golf, Scheffler is known for his humble attitude, which is reflected in the vehicle he is auctioning. The car, initially purchased by his father in 2012 and passed down to him after he graduated, has a substantial 190,000 miles on the clock. Scheffler used the car to transport himself to junior events and Monday qualifiers, even driving it to the Masters at Augusta National, where he won the Green Jacket in 2022.

Since his victory at the Masters, Scheffler has continued to excel in his golf career, garnering nine more PGA Tour victories, seven of which came earlier this year. His success has elevated him to third on the all-time PGA Tour career money list with earnings exceeding $71 million. Despite his financial success, Scheffler continued to drive the car until the birth of his son Bennett in May, when he received a new sponsor vehicle.

The vehicle being auctioned bears two of Scheffler’s signatures, one on the dashboard with a “First Owned Vehicle” inscription and the other on the right visor. The charity benefiting from the sale, Triumph Over Kid Cancer, holds a special significance for Scheffler as it was founded by a childhood friend who battled osteosarcoma. He has also supported the charity through initiatives like the James A. Ragan Triumph Scramble and “Scottie’s Heroes,” which provides golf clubs to young cancer patients. Heritage Auctions will also be donating its commission to the charity.

The auction of Scheffler’s car not only provides an opportunity for golf fans and collectors to own a piece of his personal history but also contributes to a noble cause. His decision to part ways with the vehicle showcases his generosity and commitment to giving back to the community. The involvement of high-profile figures like Jim Nantz in the auction further highlights the significance of the event and the impact it can have in supporting children battling cancer through Triumph Over Kid Cancer.
