Patrick Cantlay recently made some equipment changes ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open, deciding to go back to his previous gamers after a brief experiment with Ping Blueprint S irons. He also upgraded to Titleist’s new GT2 driver. Cantlay’s familiar 718 AP2 irons are customized with unique grinds on their leading edges to help him achieve the precise turf interaction he prefers at impact.

But the iron switch isn’t the only news coming out of Cantlay’s equipment setup at the U.S. Open. He also conducted extensive driver testing on-site at Pinehurst between his older TSR2 driver model and Titleist’s new GT2 model. Cantlay eventually posted a photo of the new GT2 driver on his Instagram, indicating his approval of the new club. As an equipment free agent, Cantlay’s endorsement of the GT2 driver on social media speaks volumes about his preference for the new equipment.

According to previous Equipment Reports, PGA TOUR pros have been experiencing increased distance, more consistent spin rates, and a quieter sound from Titleist’s new, unreleased drivers. Titleist Tour representative J.J. Van Wezenbeeck mentioned that pros are leaning towards the GT2 model due to its ease of launch, forgiveness, and overall head shape at address. These upgrades in the GT lineup have caught the attention of professional players, including Cantlay.

Cantlay’s decisions to switch back to his previous irons and upgrade to the new GT2 driver demonstrate his commitment to finding the best equipment for his game. The custom grinds on his AP2 irons and the performance improvements of the GT2 driver seem to align with Cantlay’s preferences and playing style. His thorough testing process at the U.S. Open reflects his dedication to optimizing his equipment setup for peak performance on the course.

Overall, Cantlay’s equipment changes highlight the importance of constant evaluation and adaptation in the world of professional golf. As players seek any possible advantage to stay competitive, making strategic equipment choices can play a significant role in their success. Cantlay’s recent gear adjustments showcase his willingness to explore new options and make informed decisions to enhance his performance on the PGA TOUR.

In conclusion, Patrick Cantlay’s equipment changes ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open have generated interest and discussion within the golf community. His return to familiar irons with custom grinds and adoption of the new Titleist GT2 driver indicate his dedication to fine-tuning his equipment for optimal performance. As he competes at the highest level of professional golf, Cantlay’s equipment choices could impact his success on the course and serve as a source of inspiration for amateur players looking to enhance their own gear setups.
