The end of the golf season doesn’t mean a break in new equipment trials, as seen at The Showdown where both Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler were spotted sporting new Nike footwear. Both players have been Nike staffers for years and have previously worn the Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 3 and Air Zoom TW20 models. However, at The Showdown, they were seen trialling new models of shoes with limited information available on the specific designs. Scheffler’s shoes have been seen evolving from the Presidents Cup to the Hero World Challenge and finally to The Showdown, while McIlroy’s shoes have shown differences such as extra spikes on the sole and a slimmer midsole compared to his original Victory Tour 3s. Additionally, both players have the word ‘Victory’ on the tongue of their models.

In addition to the new footwear, McIlroy was also seen with a new driver, the TaylorMade Qi35, in his bag at The Showdown. A video posted on his Instagram story showed McIlroy swinging with the caption “New driver time, @taylormadegolf.” The TaylorMade Qi35 has also been used by World No.1 Nelly Korda at the Grant Thornton Invitational. McIlroy currently uses the standard TaylorMade Qi10 driver with a Fujikura Ventus Black 6-X shaft, but it is unclear which Qi35 model was used at The Showdown.

The evolution of the players’ equipment choices highlights the ongoing commitment to testing and improving performance on the professional golf circuit. Despite the upcoming end of the golf season, players are constantly seeking ways to enhance their game through new technology and innovations in equipment. The adoption of new footwear and drivers by top players like McIlroy and Scheffler sets a trend for golf enthusiasts looking to stay updated on the latest gear and technology in the sport.
