Scottie Scheffler poised to out-earn Tour event purse this week

Scottie Scheffler, a professional golfer, is taking a break this week, possibly preparing for the upcoming PGA Tour stop, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Despite not playing, Scheffler is set to earn $8 million at the end of the Tour’s Wyndham Championship, which is his largest paycheck of the year so far. This amount is significantly higher than the prize money for the winner of the Wyndham Championship, as well as the entire purse for the event, raising questions about how Scheffler achieved this feat.

Scheffler’s impressive performance throughout the season has led him to build an insurmountable lead in the Tour’s season-long points standings, securing him the $8 million top prize through the Comcast Business Top 10 program that rewards the top 10 players in the standings. Scheffler’s lead over the second-ranked player, Xander Schauffele, is substantial, with a 1,936-point advantage. This achievement is attributed to Scheffler’s consistent success on the Tour.

Throughout the season, Scheffler has demonstrated remarkable consistency by not missing any cuts in 16 starts, finishing in the top 10 14 times, and winning six tournaments, including prestigious events such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Masters, and the Players Championship. His earnings from these victories and high finishes amount to $28,148,691, which will significantly increase with the $8 million prize money from the Wyndham Championship. With two upcoming events offering substantial purses and the Tour Championship awarding the year’s biggest prize, Scheffler’s earnings could potentially continue to grow.

The season-long standings for the top 25 players heading into the Wyndham Championship highlight Scheffler’s dominance, with Xander Schauffele trailing in second place. Other notable players in the top 10 include Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, and Wyndham Clark. The list showcases the competitive nature of professional golf and the talent of the players vying for the top spots in the standings.

Scottie Scheffler’s success on the PGA Tour has solidified his position as one of the top players in the sport. His consistency, skill, and ability to perform under pressure have set him apart from his competitors. As he continues to excel on the Tour and compete in prestigious events, Scheffler’s earnings and accomplishments are expected to further elevate his status in the golfing world. The upcoming FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship present opportunities for Scheffler to add to his impressive season and solidify his position as a dominant force in professional golf.
