Michael Kim, a PGA Tour stat leader, ranks second on Tour in approach shots from the fairway from 200 to 225 yards away, where he typically plays a longer iron. In a social-media post, Kim shared his keys to hitting long irons well, offering five tips for success. These tips include focusing on swinging wide and deep, staying back on the transition, releasing the club fully, hitting his stock shot, considering pins as irrelevant, taking the shorter club when in between clubs, and using technology to his advantage by using a forgiving 4-iron.

Kim emphasizes the importance of fully releasing the club with the hands and arms when using longer irons. He also recommends sticking to his stock shot, a high 5-yard draw, unless the wind is blowing more than 20 mph. Kim believes that pins are irrelevant when using a 4-iron, and his goal is simply to hit the green. If he finds himself in between clubs, Kim opts for the shorter club and swings harder to ensure a full release. Additionally, he suggests using technology to one’s advantage by using forgiving clubs that offer both distance and accuracy.

Kim’s advice is based on his personal experience as a successful golfer on the PGA Tour. He mentions that he has been the number one golfer from around 225 yards using a 4-iron over the past two years. By sharing his keys to hitting long irons well, Kim aims to help amateur golfers improve their game and achieve better results when playing with longer clubs. His tips are practical and easy to implement, making them accessible to a wide range of golfers looking to enhance their performance on the course.

Kim’s emphasis on focusing on swinging wide and deep, staying back on the transition, and releasing the club fully highlights the importance of proper technique when using longer irons. By following his advice and maintaining a consistent approach to hitting long irons, golfers can improve their accuracy and distance on these challenging shots. Kim’s recommendation to use technology to find forgiving clubs that suit individual preferences can also help golfers optimize their equipment for better results on the course.

In conclusion, Michael Kim’s keys to hitting long irons well offer valuable insights and practical tips for golfers looking to improve their performance on the course. By focusing on swinging wide and deep, staying back on the transition, releasing the club fully, and using technology to their advantage, golfers can enhance their skills with longer irons. Kim’s personal experience as a top-ranked PGA Tour player adds credibility to his advice, making it a valuable resource for golfers of all levels. Implementing Kim’s tips can lead to better results and a more enjoyable golfing experience for players looking to excel with longer clubs in their bag.
