The Showdown took place on Tuesday evening between LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau & Brooks Koepka and PGA Tour’s Rory McIlroy & Scottie Scheffler, with McIlroy and Scheffler claiming the victory. The event consisted of six holes of best ball, six holes of alternate shot, and six holes of singles, with the duo of McIlroy and Scheffler dominating proceedings at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. The winners received a total of $10 million, with the prize money being paid via the cryptocurrency “CRO” sponsored by Crypto.com.

Crypto.com specialises in various cryptocurrencies, and the use of cryptocurrency as the prize money added an interesting twist to the tournament. Scheffler joked about his lack of knowledge about crypto but was motivated to do some research. The prize money only added to the successful 2024 seasons of the winners, with Scheffler collecting over $63 million and McIlroy earning comfortably over $20 million.

During The Showdown, attention was drawn to DeChambeau’s Reebok coat, as he recently signed with the apparel brand. Both McIlroy and DeChambeau also used brand new drivers during the event. The PGA Tour duo of McIlroy and Scheffler outperformed the LIV pairing of Koepka and DeChambeau. Overall, the event showcased some exciting moments and high-quality golf from the participating players.

For golf enthusiasts, The Showdown provided an opportunity to witness top players compete in a unique format. The tournament format of best ball, alternate shot, and singles added variety to the competition. The use of cryptocurrency as prize money introduced a modern and innovative element to the event, reflecting the evolving landscape of sports sponsorship and partnerships.

As the winners of The Showdown, McIlroy and Scheffler demonstrated their skill and teamwork on the course. The substantial prize money earned by the winners added to their already successful seasons on the tour. The event also served as a platform for showcasing new equipment, such as DeChambeau’s Reebok coat and the players’ new drivers, highlighting the importance of technology and innovation in golf equipment.
