Xander Schauffele Pulls Out of American Express Tournament Shortly after Scottie Scheffler’s Withdrawal

World No.2 Xander Schauffele has withdrawn from the 2025 American Express, with Philip Knowles taking his place in the 156-man field in Palm Springs, California. This came as a blow to the event, as World No.1 Scottie Scheffler had also withdrawn due to a hand injury suffered while preparing Christmas dinner. Scheffler had surgery on his right hand and announced that he would not return until the end of January, missing out on the Sentry in Hawaii earlier this month.

Schauffele’s reasons for withdrawing from The American Express remain unclear, as neither the PGA Tour nor the player himself provided details on the matter. His last appearance was during the TGL opening week, where his team suffered a defeat to Ludvig Aberg’s team. He had previously finished tied for 30th at The Sentry in Hawaii and T41st at the Zozo Championship. Schauffele could potentially make a return at the Farmers Insurance Open next week, an event he has participated in every year since 2016.

Despite his recent withdrawal, fans are eagerly awaiting Schauffele’s return to the course, as he is a two-time Major champion and a top contender on the PGA Tour. His performance at the Tour Championship, where he finished T4th, demonstrated his skill and consistency as a golfer. With his eye on the upcoming AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Schauffele is taking the necessary time to heal and prepare for his return to competition.

The American Express tournament will continue with Philip Knowles filling in for Schauffele, as the field competes on multiple courses in Palm Springs.
