Celebrating Golfweek’s 50th Anniversary: A Look Back with Bradley S. Klein

As part of the celebratory events surrounding Golfweek’s 50th anniversary, we take a nostalgic journey with a series of former employees who have significantly shaped the brand. We start this series by featuring one of the longest-serving members in Golfweek history: Bradley S. Klein, the former architecture editor and the driving force behind Golfweek’s Best course rating program.

A Legacy at Golfweek

Employment Tenure

Years Worked: 1988 – 2018

Professional Role

Title: Architecture Editor
Responsibilities: As the architecture editor, Klein was responsible for monthly columns and news coverage. He also developed and managed Golfweek’s Best course rating system, establishing a benchmark in golf journalism.

Current Endeavors

Title: Principal
Company: Divot Designs LLC

Proud Achievements

One of Klein’s proudest moments at Golfweek was creating the ratings criteria for Golfweek’s Best. This initiative not only leveled the playing field with other prestigious golf publications but also solidified Golfweek’s status as a nationally recognized course ratings platform.

Memorable Moments

A ‘Hair-On-Fire’ Experience

Klein vividly recalls the 1999 tragic death of Payne Stewart. In an extraordinary display of journalistic dedication, the team had to scrap the first four pages of an edition that was about to go to print. They worked tirelessly through the night to rewrite those pages, a moment that exemplified the commitment to delivering timely and relevant golf news.

Favorite Golf Course

When asked about his favorite golf course, Klein immediately mentions the Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland, where he has been a member since 1988. He cherishes its breathtaking setting, coupled with the fond memories it brings of northern Scotland.

We extend our gratitude to all former employees who contributed their time and insights to this feature. The community of golf journalism is close-knit, and we take pride in celebrating the accomplishments of our former colleagues.

It’s too far for a chip, but not far enough for a full swing. This "in-between" distance often leads to hesitation, causing players to
