The Benjamin School boys golf team, led by Charlie Woods, had a successful start to the 2024 FHSAA postseason, winning the District 13-1A championship at the Championship Club at Summerfield in Stuart. Although the team described their performance as “not pretty,” they were able to secure the victory with a team score of 291, just two strokes better than Oxbridge Academy from West Palm Beach. Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, shot a 1-over 73 to finish in sixth place individually, while senior Pavel Tsar, The Post’s reigning boys golfer of the year, placed seventh with a 3-over 75.

The standout performer for Benjamin was Tsar’s younger brother Andrew, a sophomore who won the individual district title with an impressive 3-under 69. The team’s Instagram account described Tsar’s round as having “many lip-ins” and being “lucky.” Despite a strong performance from Oxbridge Academy, including standout performances from sophomores Joey Iaciofano and Ajax Lanasa, who finished with scores of -2 and -1, respectively, the team came up just short of the district championship. Junior AJ Colonna also contributed to Oxbridge Academy’s success by finishing with an even-par score.

Both Benjamin and Oxbridge Academy will now advance to the Region 4-1A championships, which will take place at the Miami Shores Golf Club next Monday. Benjamin, the reigning state champions in Class 1A, will look to continue their winning streak and secure a spot in the state championship. The team’s strong performance at the district level bodes well for their chances of success in the upcoming regional and state competitions.

In addition to the team results, the individual performances at the District 13-1A championship were also impressive. Andrew Tsar’s outstanding round of 69 secured him the individual district title, while Iaciofano, Lanasa, and Owen Hicks from King’s Academy all finished with under-par scores. Charlie Woods and Pavel Tsar of Benjamin also had solid performances, finishing with scores of +1 and +3, respectively. The competition at the district level was fierce, with players from various schools showcasing their skills on the golf course.

Eric J. Wallace, the deputy sports editor for The Palm Beach Post, highlighted the success of the Benjamin School boys golf team in a recent article. Wallace praised the team’s ability to come together and secure the district championship despite facing tough competition from Oxbridge Academy and other schools. He noted the standout performances of Andrew Tsar and Charlie Woods, who played key roles in Benjamin’s victory. Wallace also emphasized the team’s determination and resilience in overcoming challenges to achieve success in the postseason.

As the Benjamin School boys golf team continues their journey in the FHSAA postseason, they will look to build on their strong start and maintain their momentum in the upcoming regional and state championships. With talented players like Charlie Woods, Pavel Tsar, and Andrew Tsar leading the way, the team has the potential to achieve great success on the golf course. Fans and supporters of the team will be eagerly following their progress and cheering them on as they strive for another state championship title in Class 1A.
