Colt Knost, a former professional golfer turned broadcaster, is living his dream by working as a cohost on the Subpar podcast and a course reporter for CBS Sports. In a recent interview, Knost shared insights into his current golfing routine, his transition from being a Tour pro to a broadcaster, and the surreal experiences he encounters in his current roles. Despite spending nearly a decade on Tour, Knost now finds more enjoyment in playing golf for fun rather than as a job. He attributes this shift in mindset to not caring as much about the outcome while still maintaining his competitive spirit.

Reflecting on his past and present experiences, Knost acknowledges that his journey was meant to happen the way it did. While he may not have been a golfer who could drive the ball 300 yards like many PGA Tour players today, Knost cherishes the relationships he built and the opportunity to play at the highest level. His current roles with SiriusXM, Subpar, and CBS have allowed him to meet and connect with various athletes, creating surreal moments that he never imagined possible growing up in a small town in Texas.

Working with CBS has been a rewarding experience for Knost, who gets to collaborate with esteemed broadcasters and share his insights with a broader audience. He appreciates the opportunity to learn and grow in his broadcasting career, particularly when working alongside Jim Nantz, whom he considers a friend. On Subpar, Knost enjoys showcasing a different side of golfers and athletes, with former NHL player Mike Commodore being a fan favorite for his wild stories. In terms of surprises, Knost highlights the comedic side of some athletes, such as Scottie Scheffler being sneaky funny and good at trash-talking.

Knost recalls a standout moment from the 2024 PGA Championship where he walked with Viktor Hovland and Bryson DeChambeau on a thrilling Sunday. The electric atmosphere and excitement of being inside the ropes during intense final rounds are experiences that Knost values and hopes to bring to viewers through his commentary. Looking forward to 2025, Knost predicts rising stars like Max Greyserman and the return of Jordan Spieth from wrist surgery to create more excitement on the course. Despite golf’s perception as a sleepy sport, Knost emphasizes the intensity and adrenaline present during key moments, making it a captivating experience for both players and spectators.

Throughout his broadcasting endeavors, Knost aims to bring energy and fun to his commentary, making the viewing experience enjoyable for all. He acknowledges the importance of making accurate and engaging calls during significant shots, ensuring that viewers feel immersed in the action. Ultimately, Knost’s transition from a Tour pro to a broadcaster has allowed him to continue pursuing his passion for golf while sharing his insights and experiences with a wider audience. His journey serves as a testament to the possibilities that can arise when one embraces new opportunities beyond the fairways.
