Paul Azinger believes Tiger Woods may feel a sense of obligation to play on the senior tour

In a recent interview on Friday at Tiburon Golf Club, golf legends Paul Azinger and Bernhard Langer made a bold prediction about Tiger Woods potentially joining the PGA Tour Champions soon. Azinger, the former Tour pro and current lead analyst for PGA Tour Champions broadcasts, suggested that Woods may feel an “obligation” to play on the senior tour due to the financial benefits he has received from the PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program. Langer, who holds the record for the most senior tour wins in history, also shared his belief that Tiger will tee it up on the older circuit in the near future.

Both Azinger and Langer highlighted the potential impact of Woods joining the PGA Tour Champions. Azinger predicted that Tiger’s presence on the tour would attract significant global media attention and bring a new level of excitement to the competition. Langer echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Tiger’s ability to “move the needle” and generate interest in the senior tour. With Woods turning 50 on December 30th of this year, he would be eligible to make his PGA Tour Champions debut in the near future.

Langer’s opinion is informed by personal experience, as he played alongside Tiger and his son Charlie at the PNC Championship in December. He described the experience as a “thrill” and observed Tiger’s continued competitive fire and love for the game. Given Tiger’s enduring passion for golf and desire to compete at the highest level, Langer believes that Woods will continue to play tournament golf in the years to come. However, the question remains whether Woods’ body can handle the physical demands of competitive golf at his age, especially considering his history of injuries and surgeries.

As Woods continues to recover from his latest injury setback, golf fans and experts are eagerly anticipating his potential return to competitive golf. With his impressive track record in the sport and global fame, Tiger’s presence on the PGA Tour Champions would undoubtedly bring a new level of excitement and intrigue to the senior circuit. While Woods may prioritize playing in golf’s four majors, there is a possibility that he could fit in a few PGA Tour Champions starts each year, providing fans with more opportunities to see him in action. Overall, the prospect of Tiger Woods joining the PGA Tour Champions has generated considerable buzz and speculation within the golf community, and time will tell whether this prediction comes to fruition.
