Scottie Scheffler Discusses Driver Adjustments for Upcoming Event Series

Scottie Scheffler’s Driver Dilemma: The Quest for Club Perfection

Scottie Scheffler is nothing if not consistent—consistently excellent, that is. However, when it comes to his choice of drivers, it seems like our World No. 1 might be a bit more fickle than your average golfer looking for the next best iron set. At The American Express, he brought back his trusty TaylorMade Qi10 Dot driver, even after briefly trying out the newer TaylorMade Qi4D model at the Hero World Challenge last December. Clearly, he’s not one to rush into changes, especially when it comes to equipment that has seen him through victorious campaigns.

A Triumph Despite Turmoil

Despite the driver swap, Scheffler showcased his prowess with a commanding four-shot victory at The American Express, albeit with a late double bogey that was probably more alarming than a five-foot putt on a Sunday.

“Yeah, I think we’re making progress,” Scheffler remarked, following his second-round performance at the WM Phoenix Open. “I can be a difficult person to get a club in the bag.”

So, what’s the story behind the sticks?

Drivers: Qi10 Dot vs. Qi4D

Having clocked in a solid performance across the 2024 and 2025 seasons with the Qi10 Dot, Scheffler took the Qi4D for a spin at the Hero World Challenge, showing glimpses of success but feeling it didn’t quite fit his game. Here’s a quick comparison to sum it up:

Qi4DLighter build, advanced techTrialed but hasn’t yet made its way into his bag

A Cautious Approach to Change

In the cutthroat world of professional golf, a player’s relationship with their equipment has as much impact on success as skill itself. Scheffler plainly stated:

“It’s just one of those things that is tough. I’m not going to put anything in the bag unless I feel it’s better.”

It’s clear he’s not just playing favorites with his drivers; he’s on a quest for the Holy Grail of golf clubs. He continued with, “We are getting really close. There are some improvements I’ve for sure seen in the new driver. It just hasn’t gotten quite where it needs to be in order for me to put it in competition.”

This statement resonates with every golfer who’s ever stood at the range, questioning whether to kick the old putter to the curb or introduce a shiny new model into their bag.

Current Standings and Upcoming Challenges

As Scheffler competed in the WM Phoenix Open, he was sitting at four-under but found himself seven shots back of leader Ryo Hisatsune and standing at 40th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee after just two rounds—proof that even champions have their off days.

Following the Phoenix Open, he’s slated to participate in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am—the first Signature Event of 2026—before heading to the Genesis Invitational. With a whopping $20 million prize purse, it’s best that Scheffler finds a driver he can rely on.

Whether it’s the Qi10 Dot or the Qi4D, one thing is certain: golf fans will be watching closely to see which driver takes rightful place in Scheffler’s bag.

As the gear game continues to evolve and players adapt, we’re sure that Scheffler’s journey will play out with drama akin to a Hollywood blockbuster. Who knows? Maybe the Qi4D will be the unsung hero waiting for its moment to shine. Until then, we anticipate more riveting golf stories from Scheffler and others as the season progresses!
